Local Educators Are #YUMArkable
By Denelle LoCoco, Owner SVN | Velocity Commercial Real Estate
The phase “#YUMArkable” was coined from a conversation we had with our friend, Linda Day Harrison, from the Broker’s List. She used the term “#YUMArkable” describing how “remarkable” she thought the growth and progress was in our amazing town of Yuma, Arizona. Through that conversation, and our mission of “constant and never ending improvement”, the idea of “#YUMArkable” came into fruition. We wanted to show Yuma County how remarkable of a place it is by supporting our local educators for all of the hard work they do on a daily basis.
With great educators comes great schools; great schools produce great students; and the end result of young adults contributing to their communities. Highly educated cities attract growth from leading industries who chose to relocate their businesses. We want those industries to chose Yuma County. When there is growth within a community, the community as a whole thrives. Our teachers devote their lives to the youth of our community, nurturing and fostering young adults. They spend countless hours with our youth year round providing safe learning environments, generally with items they fund themselves. Before starting a business with my husband, I was (and will always be) an educator. I was in the classroom for 5 years. I was privileged with the opportunity to have many young adults come through my classroom and leave an impression on my life.
What is #YUMArkable? #YUMArable is a fundraising campaign by SVN | Velocity to give back to our local Yuma teachers and their classrooms. Our mission is to inspire confidence and pride within the Yuma Community. It is our goal to encourage the citizen of Yuma to be proud of the community we live in and we wanted to start with our local educators. We truly believe Yuma is #YUMArkable and the Yuma County educators help make our town a wonderful place. We teamed up with some amazing local businesses that helped us make this dream of supporting teachers possible. Through sponsorships by Gowan Milling, D&H Electric, Arbor Tech Tree & Landscaping Service, Mostly Muffins, Quick Refrigeration Company, Inc., SVN Velocity Commercial Real Estate, Salty Dog, and Culligan Water of Yuma, we are awarding four local teachers with the proceeds raised through the selling of #YUMArkable t-shirts.
Eight teachers were nominated and gave an explanation as to why funds were needed and how they would be used within their classrooms. The teacher biographies and photos were placed on Facebook for voting. Voting was open for 4 weeks. The top 4 teachers with the most “LIKES” on Facebook will be receiving the proceeds to use in their classrooms. The nominees were Jocelyn Blank, Jennifer Kaste, Miss Hutchinson, Jennifer Tunstall, Ann Ogram, Kristina Anderson, Nicole Camerer, Frances Burk, Josh Topp, and Rebecca Rivera.
The #YUMArkable winners were Rebecca Rivera, Josh Topp, Jennifer Tunstall, and Jennifer Camerer.
If you would like to support the #YUMArkable campaign and local teachers, you can do so through the purchase of a #YUMArkable t-shirt. Please stop by or contact the SVN|Velocity Commercial Real Estate Office for more information on how to purchase your shirt! Proceeds will be awarded to the winners mid-August to use within their classrooms. It is not too late to show your support!
